RFI's Trunking Extender wins the ARCIA Industry Innovation Award

RFI's Trunking Extender (TRex) was honoured with the Industry Innovation Award at the 2024 ARCIA Excellence Awards!

The award-winning innovative solution is designed to overcome the challenges of delivering network coverage to locations where it is not practical to use OEM base station equipment. By providing a novel approach to the rebroadcasting of P25 radio networks, the TRex enhances network coverage in difficult-to-reach areas, ensuring reliable and robust connectivity.

Traditional approaches to extending network coverage, such as high gain antennas or focused propagation, often fail in areas obstructed by terrain, buildings, or other RF-blocking obstacles. RFI’s TRex transcends these limitations by providing a distinct and separate footprint of coverage. Transcoding Control Channel data, allows seamless handover of subscriber terminals between the rebroadcast site and the main network, mimicking the operation of an additional network site. This feature can be configured to broadcast specific Adjacent Control Channels, enhancing subscriber mobility and network efficiency. 

• Cost-Effective Coverage Extension: By deploying the channelised repeater with TRex, you can extend P25 radio coverage without incurring the high costs of building new macro sites.  
• Environmental Benefits: The smaller footprint and lower power consumption of the repeater mean that it can be powered by solar energy instead of relying on diesel generators. This allows network designers to consider environmentally sensitive areas that were previously ruled out due to the environmental impact of traditional solutions. 
• Improved Deployment Flexibility: The innovation offers network designers a versatile option for deploying coverage solutions in challenging environments, such as remote or environmentally protected areas, where traditional infrastructure is impractical.
